Gravity

This week on Forgotten Cinema, the Mikes head into orbit with "Gravity", the Audience Choice winner for this season.

Both Mike Butler and Mike Field really enjoy the film, and it is easy to see why it earned the audience vote. While it may not hit quite the same heights as that first IMAX 3D experience, "Gravity" still holds up as an intense and visually stunning survival story.

Sandra Bullock carries the film almost entirely on her own, delivering a performance that keeps the tension grounded and the stakes personal. George Clooney adds a memorable and charismatic presence that helps balance the film’s more intense moments.

The Mikes do have a couple of small nitpicks. Butler feels the film loses a bit of momentum toward the end of the second act, and Field is not a big fan of the repeated space station problem Bullock’s character has to face. Still, these are minor issues in an otherwise gripping and well-crafted film.

Tense, immersive, and technically impressive, "Gravity" remains a standout survival story and a deserving Audience Choice selection.

About the Podcast

Forgotten Cinema
A podcast about forgotten films that deserve a second chance
Welcome to Forgotten Cinema! Each episode, Mike Field and Mike Butler highlight a film that for a variety of reasons was forgotten by audiences. Whether it be because a more popular movie was released at the same time or the movie simply didn’t catch on with an audience in the its initial run. We’ll discuss what we love about the movie or perhaps don’t love about it and decide whether the movie is worth a revisit.
