Scream 7 - Now Showing
It's all come to this!
This week on Forgotten Cinema: Now Showing, the Mikes finally arrive at "Scream 7", the final destination after their long Scream Lead Up series.
Unlike many critics, Mike Butler and Mike Field had a great time with this entry. Is it the best Scream film? No. Is it the worst? Also no. And as the Mikes point out, even the weakest Scream is still leagues above most other slashers and basic horror films.
Sidney Prescott remains a strong anchor for the franchise, and the film delivers with some very effective kills. The Mikes also dig into some of the film’s bigger talking points, including the return of Stu, whether audiences can fully buy Joel McHale as a serious action presence after his long comedy career, and how the killer reveal works within the story.
With the new installment now in the books, Butler and Field also update their full franchise rankings after completing their journey through every Scream film leading up to this release. For anyone jumping in with this episode, the Mikes encourage you to go back and check out the full Lead Up series as they revisited the entire franchise step by step.
After all the blood, meta commentary, and Ghostface mayhem, the question remains. Where does "Scream 7" truly land in the legacy of the series?
Thank you for joining the Mikes through each film in the "Scream" saga!
