Starman

Red means stop, green means go, yellow means go very, very fast.

That's right! The Mikes are talking about the 1984 film, Starman, starring Jeff Bridges and Karen Allen; directed by...John Carpenter?!

Mike Field and Mike Butler discuss how the failure of Carpenter's The Thing (yes it was considered a bomb, not THE bomb back then) caused him to believe that he had to direct this sci-fi love story to prove to studios that he was still a viable director. While both Mikes agree that Carpenter had nothing to prove, the results on screen are awesome. This film is filled to the brim with heart and warmth, most of it stemming from it's amazing leads in both Bridges and Allen. And while they are some of the standouts about this film, there is a lot to love about it.

So grab your popcorn and soda, please notice the exits to the left and right of you, and settle down for Forgotten Cinema

About the Podcast

Forgotten Cinema
A podcast about forgotten films that deserve a second chance
Welcome to Forgotten Cinema! Each episode, Mike Field and Mike Butler highlight a film that for a variety of reasons was forgotten by audiences. Whether it be because a more popular movie was released at the same time or the movie simply didn’t catch on with an audience in the its initial run. We’ll discuss what we love about the movie or perhaps don’t love about it and decide whether the movie is worth a revisit.
