The Pagemaster

Mike Field and Mike Butler have hit their heads in the library and are now imaging book creatures talking to them. It's the living nightmare of 1994's live action/animated film, The Pagemaster, starring Macaulay Culkin and Christopher Lloyd, with the voice talent of Patrick Stewart and Whoopi Goldberg.

Listen in as the Mikes discuss the WGA drama that surrounded this film upon its release as the creator of the story and original script fought to receive credit. Also listen to Mike Field not like this film, as Butler expected. This is a film steeped in the early '90's; an animated film that was not made by the Disney goliath, where the animation may not be up to par with the likes of Alladin. It is also possible that cuts were made to some parts of the story, as an entire character used in the promotion of the film was cut out. The film, however, is short, gets its messages across, and might be a good watch for children that skew younger.

About the Podcast

Forgotten Cinema
A podcast about forgotten films that deserve a second chance
Welcome to Forgotten Cinema! Each episode, Mike Field and Mike Butler highlight a film that for a variety of reasons was forgotten by audiences. Whether it be because a more popular movie was released at the same time or the movie simply didn’t catch on with an audience in the its initial run. We’ll discuss what we love about the movie or perhaps don’t love about it and decide whether the movie is worth a revisit.
